Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Installation

Learn how to install a combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm and detector in your home to stay safe!

This is a very simple installation project that any homeowner can do with a few simple tools. It took me less then 5 minutes with using my Ryobi drill, but you could even do this project without power tools if needed.

It is recommended to have a smoke and carbon monoxide detector and alarm on every level of your home. Above you can watch me install a combination one in the basement of our home.

It is also recommended that you test all of your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms and detectors every single week. I normally test mine on a random basis, but this is not ideal. You should pick a day and time and keep it the same every single week.

You should also check the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms in your home regularly. Doing this may save you and your families lives. Better to be safe than sorry!

In some cities you can get free smoke alarms from your local fire department or health department. I prefer to put one of these combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on each level of my home and then put in smoke alarms in each of the bedrooms of the home as well.

We have a partially finished basement with my home office and a master bedroom with a master walk in closet located on the lower level now, so it is very important for our safety to install this on the ceiling of our basement.
