REVIEW: Porter Cable Brad Nail Gun

This product review is on the Porter Cable Brad Nail Gun. I will help you determine if this brad nailer is good quality and a good value. I have years of personal experience with the Porter Cable Brad Nail Gun.

In my post last week “How to Fix Cabinet Drawers” I used my Porter Cable Brad Nailer again. I use this brad nail gun all the time. The Porter Cable Brand is considered “Cheap” (as in low cost) for power tools.

When it comes to buying power tools there is a few things you should consider before buying one, How much will you use it and What is the purpose of the tool? These two questions will help you determine if you should go with the lowest cost brand of the expensive commercial brand like Rigid or DeWalt.

In this post I am just focused on the Porter Cable brand and the 18 Gauge Brad Nail Gun that they make.

1. Porter Cable Brad Nail Gun Quality

  • Nail Length –                           5/8” to 2”
  • Exhaust –                                 Rear
  • Motor Type –                         Maintenance Free
  • Manufactures Warranty –      90 Day
  • Recommended PSI –               90
  • Consumer Rating –                 4.3 Out of 5 (462 Reviews)

Overview – The Porter Cable brand does make some good quality products at a lower cost. They utilize lower cost materials to manufacture their power tools but in my opinion their products are still good quality.

I have a few Porter Cable tools that I use routinely and they handle the use and wear and tear quite well.

I have had my Porter Cable Brad Nailer for a few years and today it still works just like new. I have never had any problems with it and I don’t think I have even had one nail jam.

This Porter Cable Brad Nail Gun will work perfectly for any homeowner or handyman. If you are a professional carpenter doing trim and molding installs every day for 6 t 8 hours a day then you might want to go with a higher quality brand. Anything short of that kind of use this Porter Cable Brad Nailer will work great for you.

2. Porter Cable Brad Nail Gun Value

Porter Cable Brad Nail Gun – $59.97

The price of this brad nailer is a decent price. You can get the same quality from a higher quality brand for about $20 more. It will depend on how much you want to save $20. The DeWalt Brad Nail Gun with the same features and quality is $79.58 from Home Depot.

Most Porter Cable tools come with a better wallet saving price then this one. I do want to point out that saving $20 and getting essentially the same exact tool might be worth it.

You can spend well over $100 on a brad nail gun but unless you are going to be using it every day then I feel that would be a waste of money.

I feel that I have used mine enough to say that the money I saved was worth it. I have used my Porter Cable Brad Nailer on many jobs including my own basement remodel. I have never had any issues with it and it still works like new.

You can buy the Porter Cable Brad Nail Gun at your local Home Depot, you can also order online (by clicking one of the links here) and pick up in store (where available). They will get it ready for you, when you show up you will go to the pick-up desk and it will be waiting for you. You don’t have to waste any time looking through the store.

I hope you have found this information helpful. Leave me a comment and let me know what your favorite power tool brand is and why.
